A multi-hypothesis GLRT approach to the combined source detection and direction of arrival estimation problem

چکیده
The problem of detecting the number of uncorrelated narrowband signals received by an array of sensors when the direction of arrival (DOA) and power level of each source is unknown is investigated. A multi-hypothesis generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) approach is used, resulting in a procedure which maximizes the likelihood function with respect to the number of signals and their DOAs and powers. A tuning mechanism for controlling the tradeoff between the probability of correct detection and the probability of false alarm is obtained by imposing a constraint on the minimum allowable value for the power level estimate. A sequential search over the number of sources is used for a computationally feasible solution. Performance comparisons are made to the Minimum Description Length (MDL) and Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) signal detection approaches.

Finite Sample Size Optimality of GLR Tests
In binary hypothesis testing, when the hypotheses are composite or the corresponding data pdfs contain unknown parameters, one can use the well known generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) to reach a decision. This test has the very desirable characteristic of performing simultaneous detection and estimation in the case of parameterized pdfs or combined detection and isolation in the case of ...
متن کاملSimultaneous robust estimation of multi-response surfaces in the presence of outliers
A robust approach should be considered when estimating regression coefficients in multi-response problems. Many models are derived from the least squares method. Because the presence of outlier data is unavoidable in most real cases and because the least squares method is sensitive to these types of points, robust regression approaches appear to be a more reliable and suitable method for addres...
متن کاملAnomaly Detection Using an MMPP-based GLRT
Detection of anomalous network traffic is accomplished using a generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) applied to traffic arrival times. The network traffic arrival times are modelled using a Markov modulated Poisson process (MMPP). The GLRT is implemented using an estimate of the MMPP parameter obtained from training data that is not anomalous. MMPP parameter estimation is accomplished using ...
متن کاملOrder Statistics Approach for Detecting a Transient Signal of Unknown Arrival Time in Noise
Detecting a transient signal of unknown arrival time in noise is actually a binary hypothesis test problem, where the null hypothesis (noise only) is a simple one, while the alternative hypothesis is composite. The generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) is a common tool to solve such problems. In this paper we show how order statistics (OS) approach can be used to solve the same problem. We s...

This paper proceeds directions of arrival (DOA) estimation by a linear array. These years, some algorithms, e.g. Khatri-Rao approach, Nested array, Dynamic array have been proposed for estimating more DOAs than sensors. These algorithms can merely estimate uncorrelated sources. For Khatri-Rao approach, this is due to the fact that Khatri-Rao product discard the non-diagonal entries of the corre...
